Explore the implications of the text's assertion that "the mind is a simulator par excellence." Discuss how this idea challenges traditional notions of reality and consciousness.
The mind is a simulator because the mind shows an image of an image endlessly. John Lilly thought that visions are real, and Richard Feynman thought that visions were not real. Both agree that the mind produces the simulation of the visions. When your eyes are closed or we are daydreaming or when we are spacing out our mind is always putting some kind of reality in front of us. The mind challenges us by making the visions seem real but are not real because our vision does not correspond with any material outside of our minds. We expect that our mind will show us real material objects, but these visions are very vivid and very compelling but yet they are not outside of our senses. When I daydream, the vision of my daydream seems real to me. So, in a sense I agree with Lily that the visions that we can have are real. This challenges the traditional notion of consciousness by making us think if we are fully awake or not. But when we have dreams we are kind of aware of what is going on but not in touch with our senses but we are in touch with our mind.
Analyze the concept of "Global Positioning Intelligence (GPI)" as presented in the text, and discuss its potential impact on privacy, relationships, and social interaction.
GPI is where digital tools track all of our information that is on our profiles that are a part of Facebook, Instagram and other sites and they bring up other people's profiles to have us connect with them. GPI will be interfering with our privacy when we use tools that are more invasive than Facebook or Instagram by making it possible for anyone to find out where you are in the world like predators finding us or companies manipulating us. GPI will make it to where we can be found in the world whether we want to be found by someone or not and that means that there will be no more privacy. GPI will be everywhere eventually like in our brain, car, or even as robots for workers. GPI has an effect on relationships because it will mean you don’t have to take the time to get to know anyone anymore and we lose our ability to communicate with each other, and we lose the process of communication and that is part of the social interaction that is lost. GPI also affects privacy by telling everyone we meet what has happened in our past and when we might not be ready to tell the other person what happened.
